As part of awareness-raising initiatives and health activities aimed at promoting environmental and preventive awareness, the Department of Community Health Techniques at the Polytechnic College / Babel, Middle Euphrates Technical University, organised an educational and awareness-raising event entitled:
(Environmental Pollution and Its Impact on Respiratory and Immune System Functions), under the slogan ‘Clean Air… A Better Life’.
The event provided an overview of the concept of environmental pollution and its main sources, including factory and vehicle emissions, waste and fuel combustion, dust, fine particulate matter, chemicals and pesticides, as well as the effects of urban sprawl and overcrowded cities on air quality and human health.
The event also highlighted the negative effects and health risks of pollution on the respiratory system, such as bronchial irritation, the exacerbation of asthma and allergy symptoms, and an increased risk of lung infections.
It also examined the impact of pollution on the immune system and how it weakens the body’s response to infection, reaffirming the College’s ongoing commitment to organising activities that contribute to promoting a culture of health and environmental awareness amongst students and the wider community.
