Babylon Technical Institute – Department of Networks and Computer Software participated in the 15th Scientific Conference for Student Graduation Projects for the Academic Year 2024-2025, hosted by Kufa University recently. The Institute’s participation in an innovative project titled “Use of precision controls in civil defense applications”, which garnered widespread appreciation from the attendance.
Student Muhammad Mushtaq Jawad, under the supervision of Dr. Ali Salah Mahdi, has presented an ambitious project aimed at designing an advanced robot that can automatically detect and extinguish fires inside buildings. The robot has been designed to be an effective tool in promoting safety measures in various vital spaces such as factories, hospitals, schools, and government buildings, which contributes to reducing human and material losses resulting from fires.
The performance of robots has been tested in realistic simulation environments, and preliminary results have shown superior ability to detect fire sources with high accuracy, intelligently navigate various obstacles, and efficiently execute fire operations within specific time frames. This innovation is a promising step towards the adoption of smart technologies in the civil defense field, which contributes to improving firefighters’ safety and reducing the risks they face in the line of duty, as well as reducing human and material losses resulting from fires.
Beneficiaries of the project:
1. Directorate of Civil Defense
2. Ministry of Health
3. Ministry of Education
4. Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research
The project also reflects a message of humanitarian solidarity, where the student and staff dedicated this project to the resilient Palestinian people, Yini Samad, who is suffering from the ongoing bombing of the Hyuni, in a gesture of expressing their support and standing by their side in the face of adversity.
The initiative is said to come as part of the Babylon Technical Institute’s keenness to link scientific research with community service and humanitarian issues, and bolster the role of youth in finding innovative solutions to various challenges facing society. It also reflects the Institute’s vision to support innovations that contribute to improving quality of life and developing scientific and practical abilities of students.
